Through the proposed approach FAO will work in close collaboration with relevant government institutions, and local partners, in order to combine actions targeting 1 500 vulnerable households and aimed at anticipating and mitigating immediate drought impacts on agricultural assets during the Primera agricultural season:

  • increased water storage and water management capacities for cultivation, fish raising, or household consumption;
  • procurement and distribution of inputs and tools to cultivate short-cycle varieties and backyard gardening;
  • animal health interventions;
  • increased awareness and communication to scale up prevention and mitigation measures in the Dry Corridor;
  • 500 households will be supported with the provision of beans seeds for the planting of Postrera;
  • procurement and distribution of time-critical inputs, for farmers dependent on rainfed agriculture: black bean seeds and forage seeds for the second agricultural season;
  • enhanced technical skills and local capacities to implement anticipatory actions for mitigating the impact of drought on family farming; and
  • access to native vegetables from community seed banks, and to backyard birds and tilapia fish farming.
