Objective / Goal The overall objectives of the action is to protect key livestock assets of vulnerable households and eventually increase milk for the children through supplementary feeding of lactating cattle and goats, animal health, and livestock destocking activities.

Activities

The three project objectives were to:

  • protect the lives of 5 001 head of sheep and goats and 6 405 head of cattle belonging to 2 970 households;
  • increase the availability of milk for beneficiary households by at least 50 percent, thereby improving the nutrition of children, women and the elderly; and
  • investigate and recommend measures that should be taken to overcome or at least minimize chronic livestock feed shortages in Afar Region.
