Building on past and ongoing initiatives in the region, FAO and the German Red Cross will collaborate with their partners to establish proactive action mechanisms to address drought and food insecurity in Central America through three
interrelated lines of work:

  • The first component will focus on the strengthening of national and local disaster preparedness and response systems through the adoption and inclusion of anticipatory actions into national strategies for disaster preparedness, with a focus on food security.
  • The second component will reinforce local action and enhance preparedness for effective response at the community level by improving capacities at the community level and promoting the establishment of community-led and risk-informed anticipatory action systems, in coordination with key partners and the government.
  • The third component will ensure that advocacy, knowledge management, and coordination mechanisms with partners are implemented to promote timely and more integrated data collection and analysis and guide risk-informed decision-making in support of anticipatory action and response in the food security sector.
