Objective / Goal The overall objective of the project is to restore food production capacity of seed insecure farmers in nineteen woredas in Oromiya region through supply of good quality seeds for 2004 Meher cropping season.

Activities

Specific objectives included:

  • to purchase and deliver a total of about 903 metric tons of good quality seeds to a total of 24 700 farming households (i.e. around 13% of seed insecure households in Oromiya and 35% of seed insecure farming households in the four woredas under consideration) who will be able to cultivate and resume farming on a total of about 11 300 ha of land during the 2004 Meher cropping season;
  • to improve the food supply of seed insecure farmers in the project area;
  • to reduce dependency of seed insecure drought-affected farmers on external food aid;
  • to strengthen the household and local seed system;
  • to support the local capacity in improved crop production.
