The first appointment for the scientific team was scheduled at 10:00 on Friday, 26 June, when all cruise participants met for the first pre-survey meeting.
In addition to several general issues, the cruise plan was discussed and the different teams were combined according their fields of work.
An open discussion took place about the requirements of each team and how the different needs could best be integrated into the work schedules.
This is a crucial step to safeguarding the smooth procedures during the cruise. Talks within and between the groups continued into the evening.
The labs were also inspected and set up to match the cruise needs; the computer systems and databases were updated with the relevant information for the new cruise.
At 20:00 local time the Nansen left the berth of Jakarta, starting our journey across the Indian Ocean. We’ll be updating you on our work at sea, and hope to be able to provide you with photos and videos illustrating the research work we are undertaking.
