Recognizing the role of family farming in overcoming poverty and eradicating hunger, it is essential to encourage discussions about public policies focused on providing access to rural services: financial, non-financial, technical assistance, and rural extension, as well as promoting the development of inclusive markets for family farming. 

It is essential to strengthen existing dialogue spaces and the implementation of their agendas, with special attention to reducing the gaps found by rural women and young women.

Based on this context, the project of Knowledge Management Platform of Technical Assistance of Rural Extension was designed, which will seek to contribute to the sustainable rural development of Latin America and the Caribbean, strengthening family farming through public policies built on the basis of dialogue and within the framework of south-south cooperation between the countries of the region, in order to respond to the Sustainable Development Goals set by the 2030 Agenda.

The project is part of the agreement between the Brazilian Cooperation Agency, the Special Secretariat for Family Agriculture and Agricultural Development, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, through the Brazil-FAO International Cooperation Program, with support of the Latin American Network of Rural Extension Services (RELASER).

The initiatives developed are intended to promote and facilitate learning between countries; look for ways and methodologies of extension and rural services that increase and improve coverage and quality; and improve the dialogue between tacit and explicit knowledge.

The Project of Knowledge Management Platform for Rural Extension Technical Assistance is implemented through the Latin American Network of Rural Extension Services (RELASER) and its National Forums.

The National Forums have the objective of highlighting the issue of extension in the national debate. They work by identifying, classifying and articulating relevant actors for the joint creation of a work plan with a view to influencing the country's policies. In its regional scope, RELASER promotes and coordinates national activities and articulates them to highlight the role of extension in the region.
