Argentina REDD+ Results Based Payment Project

Argentina's forests are vital for hosting diverse flora and fauna, combating climate change, and providing livelihoods for local communities. During the 2014-2016 period, Argentina made significant strides in slowing down deforestation and forest degradation, thus reducing emissions. In recognition of these efforts, Argentina received an investment of USD 82 million in 2020 under the "Argentina REDD+ Results-Based Payments Project for the 2014-2016 period."

The project is currently being implemented by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the Undersecretariat of Environment of the Ministry of the Interior of Argentina. It aims to contribute to Argentina's commitments under the Paris Agreement and its Nationally Determined Contribution, enhancing climate ambition through forest conservation and sustainable management, and improving the quality of life for local communities.
