WaPOR, remote sensing for water productivity

EBRD activity on maximizing water productivity of the date palm in Jericho using WaPOR data

08/08/2023

An EBRD-FAO stakeholders’ inception workshop was conducted in Jericho, Palestine to kickstart a set of activities revolving around the use of WaPOR data and ground data to work towards the maximisation of water productivity of the date palm. Around twenty-four participants gathered to discuss related issues such as irrigation water, farm management, and tree productivity from the date palm tree grower association, the private sector, agricultural companies, water user associations, governmental institutions, and academic research centers. The workshop facilitators presented the WaPOR project, which has many similarities with this project, and on the WaPOR data that will be produced for Jericho at 20m resolution for these applications.

The FAO organized this workshop under the “EBRD-SEMED project” funded by European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, in close collaboration with the Palestinian Ministry of Agriculture.
