WaPOR, remote sensing for water productivity

Project meeting with the Ministry of Water and Irrigation of Jordan

05/10/2023

The online meeting, held with the participation of 8 technical staff members from the Ministry of Water and Irrigation, IHE Delft, FAO, and IWMI, focused on crucial discussions. The primary objective was to recognize the significance of incorporating WaPOR data into the national Water Information System (WIS). This integration aims to bridge data gaps and ensure the consistent feeding of essential data into the WIS for reporting the national water budget.

During the meeting, specific attention was given to activities related to groundwater abstraction assessment for irrigation purposes in the Jafer area. Participants engaged in identifying and discussing the importance of integrating WaPOR data, emphasizing its temporal and spatial resolutions. To facilitate this process, a questionnaire was distributed among participants.

The meeting outcomes included:

  1. Identification of WaPOR data crucial for integration into the WIS.
  2. Definition of the temporal and spatial resolutions for the integrated data.
  3. Planning for the development of a process flowchart to guide the implementation of integrating WaPOR data into the WIS.
