WaPOR, remote sensing for water productivity

WaPORACT: open-access tools to extract, interpret, analyze and visualize geodata to improve water productivity

14/02/2022

WaPORACT was created by FAO partner, eLEAF, to support the development of customized geodata services in Africa and the Near East. It is a suite of Python tools that permit the retrieval, the aggregation, the analysis, the visualization and the dissemination of FAO WaPOR water productivity data. The package is an attempt to provide users with a starting point with which to start producing actionable data from the the WaPOR datasets in a quick and repeatable manner. It provides the building blocks for customized tool development to target specific user needs including a framework for irrigation performance analysis.

The complete toolbox is available open-access at Github, here.

🗓 This week WaterPIP partners eLEAF and MetaMeta will visit Kenya to co-develop these customized services together with teams from #Ethiopia, #Sudan and #Kenya and #MetaMeta.

WaPORACT was developed by eLEAF, under the WaterPIP project (Water Productivity Improvement in Practice) that is supported by the Directorate-General for International Cooperation (DGIS) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands under the IHE Delft Partnership Programme for Water and Development (DUPC2). WaterPIP aims to guide countries and water projects in Water Productivity concepts to reach 25% WP improvement in the agricultural sector using WaPOR. It is lead by IHE Delft in partnership with Wageningen University and Research Center (WUR), MetaMeta, eLEAF and FAO.
