In June 2024, a large group of Mashco Piro Indigenous People was spotted on a riverbank in the southern Peruvian Amazon. It was a rare sight, since the Mashco Piro live in voluntary isolation in the lush forests that cover the region. Nevertheless, in recent years they have appeared more frequently at the edges of their territory, often looking for food.  The Mashco Piro is one of over 200 groups of Indigenous Peoples living in voluntary isolation and initial contact in the world. New York - The 23rd Session of the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII) started at the UN General Assembly Hall on 15 April and lasted for ten days. New York - From the 15th to the 26th of April 2024, the 23rd Session of the UN Permanent forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII) is taking place at the UN Headquarters in New York.
