Fish farming for more efficient, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable agrifood systems

This video showcases a successful fish farming project in the Northern Jordan Valley, established by FAO in Jordan under the project “Transformation to more efficient, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable agrifood systems” funded by the Government of Norway. Spanning 13.5 dunams with six 1 000 sqm ponds, the project farms economically viable mono-sex Thai tilapia with a 5–6-month growth cycle. Addressing poverty and unemployment in the region, the initiative serves as a practical model for the circular economy, efficiently utilizing allocated irrigation water. This collaborative effort between the Ministry of Agriculture, FAO, and the Norwegian Embassy demonstrates innovative solutions for sustainable agriculture and serves as an inspiring example for farmers, particularly youth, highlighting the potential of maximizing limited natural resources in Jordan. The project achieved a remarkable 97 percent success rate thanks to strong partnerships and dedicated follow-up.
