Sustainable Production and Utilization of Agro-natural Resources (SPUAR) Initiative in Ma’an, Jordan

Sustainable Production and Utilization of Agro-natural Resources (SPUAR) Initiative focuses on the issues of sustainable use of natural resources, water harvesting and poverty alleviation in Ma’an Governorate. This project is in line with the MDGs (eradicate extreme poverty and hunger, ensure environmental sustainability); Jordan 2025: A National Vision and Strategy (a long-term vision to improve the welfare of citizens and the basic services, to create a balanced society where opportunities are available to all and the gap between governorates is bridged); Social Protection and Poverty Alleviation Strategy for 2019-2025 (aiming to support the country’s underprivileged population and to protect other social classes from sliding into poverty); The National Strategy for Agricultural Development for 2016-2025 (sustainable development of agricultural resources that will preserve animal and plant biodiversity); and National Water Strategy (cap and regulate irrigated agriculture in the highlands, ensure efficient storage and utilization of surface water, proper reuse of treated wastewater.
