FAO Trains Gusii Council of Elders as Alternative Justice Systems Adjudicators

An assessment conducted during the training confirmed that among the disputes reported to the elders, land disputes were the most prevalent (76%) followed by family disputes (71%) and boundaries disputes at 39%. The Gusii Council of Elders further indicated that even family disputes were often connected to land, thus underscoring the rationale for collaboration between the Department of Lands, the Judiciary, and the elders.
FAO Strengthens capacities in the tea value chain

The initiative, funded and supported by GIZ and Embassy of China aims to build the capacity of the factory managers towards an overarching goal of strengthening Kenya’s tea value chain to support rural livelihoods and contribute to climate action. The expected project outcomes are a more productive, efficient and low-carbon tea value chain realized and an enabling environment for low carbon tea value chain enhanced.

Producing broilers with minimal antimicrobials

The group consisting mainly of poultry farmers was formed in 2024 with the goal of learning more about poultry farming through peer-to-peer learning. Its 22 members are all full of testimonies on how the skills they have acquired have helped them keep poultry with minimal use of antimicrobials. Having been taught about antimicrobial resistance and its effect on the food chain, the group’s risk perception index on antimicrobial has significantly risen.
