Solid Waste Reduction on Irrigation Canal of El Bared

Solid waste crisis in Akkar region is a continuing problem due to the lack of central solutions, affecting human health, the environment and natural resources. With Norway’s financial aid, FAO conducted an assessment on El Bared main irrigation canal. To complement the field interventions, FAO, organized community-based awareness campaigns on solid waste management for the local communities. FAO is supporting the North Lebanon Water Establishment to regularly clean, collect and transport the accumulated waste through hiring local workers. FAO piloted an Automated Solid Waste Removal Screen on the downstream of El Bared Canal.
