30/01/2024

On 28 November 2023, FAO participated in the launching of the Quadripartite (FAO, UNEP, WHO, and WOAH) One Health Legislative Assessment Tool for Antimicrobial Resistance (OHLAT). The event attracted over 650 registrations and 435 actual participants and was opened by Thanawat Tiensin, Director of Animal Production and Health Division (NSA).

The OHLAT is an assessment tool aimed at assisting countries map out Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) relevant legislation across sectors under a One Health approach, and to assess such legislation against existing international guidance. The Tool is designed to facilitate AMR governance under a One Health approach, improve antimicrobial stewardship, and prevent contamination of food and the environment with antimicrobials and antimicrobial residues. It can facilitate the establishment of sustainable multisectoral coordination mechanisms and the implementation of National Action Plans for AMR.

The development of the OHLAT has been financially supported by the Multipartner Trust Fund for AMR and is based on a previous FAO Methodology to analyse AMR-relevant legislation in the food and agriculture sectors funded by the UK Fleming Fund.
