The International Development Law Organization (IDLO) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) have published a pivotal publication titled "Safeguarding the Right to Adequate Food During Pandemics and Emergencies: Lessons from COVID-19." This document delves into the global food security situation exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, providing crucial insights for legislators and policymakers. Read the full brief here!

The brief highlights the devastating impact of the pandemic on the realization of the right to adequate food, especially for vulnerable communities.  Drawing on case studies from 40 countries and the European Union, the brief identifies key legislative and regulatory trends that emerged during the pandemic. It presents key recommendations to help decision-makers implement a human rights-based approach to food security.

The publication shows how countries who had pre-existing sound legal frameworks were able to swiftly address food security issues during the pandemic.

As we continue to navigate the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, this brief serves as an essential resource for fostering robust, equitable, and sustainable food systems globally.
