LEGN assists Paraguay to pass law on family farming

01/05/2020

In 2019, the Development Law Service (LEGN) assisted Paraguay to develop and adopt Law No. 6286 on the “Defense, restoration and promotion of family farming”. This law was promoted by the Parliamentary Front against Hunger of Paraguay, a national chapter of the Parliamentary Front against Hunger in Latin America and the Caribbean. The new law recognizes the value of the productive activities carried out by family farmers and their importance for the preservation of food security and food sovereignty. Furthermore, this law contributes to the promotion of sustainable production systems, the preservation of biodiversity and the protection of cultural and historical values of rural and indigenous communities.
