FAO releases COVID-19 Q&As to help government policymakers

Answers to some questions concerning the pandemic’s impact on food and agriculture

02/04/2020

As the novel coronavirus disease COVID-19 continues to spread, questions have been raised about the potential impact on food supply and availability and on livelihoods around the globe.

FAO is aiming to respond to such concerns through its comprehensive COVID-19 information portal, on which the Organization is providing information updates intended to support government policymakers as they navigate this unprecedented situation. The recently published Q&A, for instance, examines how the COVID-19 pandemic could affect the food and agriculture sector, including impacts on food production, agricultural supply chains, rural livelihoods, the nutritional status of vulnerable populations and the global economy as a whole. The Q&A also outlines what FAO is doing to ensure it can continue to deliver on its mandate of fighting hunger, whilst taking care to protect its staff.
