In 2011, Kuo Huaren, honorary professor of the Department of Agronomy at National Taiwan University, brought back Taiwanese millet seeds collected by American scholar Dr. Wayne Hazen Fogg in 1977 from the U.S. National Seed Bank. This was an important milestone for millet. The 2023 Seed Life Festival is in response to the 2023 International Year of Millet announced by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. With the title "Taiwan 2023 International Year of Millet", people from all over Taiwan are invited to participate in millet tribal culture, history, rituals, re-cultivation, and processing. ⠀
