Farmers to follow GAP Standards in vegetable production

Kathmandu-Strengthening One Health approaches for countries in the Asia-Pacific Region /Nepal Component (TCP/RAS/3620) organized a consultation meeting to discuss issues relating to the implementation of Nepal Good Agriculture Practice in Vegetables on 26 February 2019 in the meeting hall of the Department of Food Technology and Quality Control (DFTQC) of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development. The meeting was attended by the representatives of MOALD, DFTQC, farmers, agro-entrepreneurs and FAO Nepal.

After a prolonged discussion, the meeting decided that the beneficiary farmers attached to the project will follow the GAP Standards in the vegetable production in their farms, which will be closely monitored by the project team of MOALD/DFTQC and FAO.

The meeting also decided to select a government staff as a facilitator, who will train the farmers and the agro-entrepreneurs to enhance their skill on record keeping and documentation. The participants agreed to adopt the prescribed process of document preparation and application for certification for the farmers and the enterpreneurswho have met the GAP Standards in their production.
