Nepal observes International Day of Forests (IDF) 2019
Kathmandu- The Government of Nepal has celebrated the International Day of Forests (IDF) 2019 in Kathmandu from 19-21 March 2019 with series of activities in collaboration FAO, IUCN, ICIMOD and other development partners.
Speaking on the main ceremonial function, Minister of Forest and Environment Shakti Bahadur stressed on the need to focus on sustainable use of our forest resources for national prosperity”. He urged forest scientists to come up with innovative ways to balance conservation and use of forest resources.
Declaring the fiscal year 2019/2020 of Nepal as Afforestation Year, Minister Basnet reaffirmed that the Government is effortful to conserve forest and biodiversity of Nepal.
The government has unveiled an ambitious plan of planting 50 million trees in the fiscal year 2019-20 as part of a nationwide campaign dubbed the “Year of Plantation”
Secretary at Ministry of Forest and Environment Dr B N Oli was the special guest of the program chaired by the Director-General of the Department of Forest and Soil Conservation Dr. Ram Parsad Lamsal. Large numbers of high-ranking government officials, academicians, scientists, foresters, students and members of civil society particpated in the series of activities includes winter plantation, display and disseminate conservation awareness building program including special program focus on school students, infographic on spreading conservation messages, forest bird watch, talk shows in radio and televsion.
