FAOR holds meetings with Provinical Ministers of Karnali

Ken Shimizu, FAO Representative in Nepal met with the Honorable Chief Minister of Karnali Province, Jiwan Bahadur Shahi and briefed him about FAO project interventions on organic farming, ensuring food security, promoting agro products and scaling up the high value crops in the Karnali region.

Honorable Jiwan Bahadur Shahi thanked FAO Nepal for the efforts made in supporting promotion of organic farming and requested for strengthened collaboration in this regard. He highlighted the cabinet decision to build Karnali as an organic province by accelerating its organic agricultural production.

The FAOR also spoke with the Honorable Minister of Land Management, Agriculture and Cooperatives (MOLMAC) Chandra Bahadur Shahi about the organic agriculture movement in the Karnali province, including major interventions and contributions of the project.

Both parties agreed on continued technical assistance and support to strengthening initiatives related to organic agriculture, food security and achieving SDGs in Karnali Province.

In the bilateral meeting with the FAOR, the Honorable Minister of Industry, Tourism, Forest and Environment (MOITFE) Tshering D. Lama highlighted the major interventions of the Ministry for creating opportunities in cottage industries, forests and nature tourism. He requested to link agriculture and forestry through technical support to strengthen climate-resilient, agri-forestry systems and livelihoods enhancement.
