FAO hands over IT equipment to help monitoring food security and nutrition SDGs
Abuja - On Monday October 11, FAO handed over ICT equipment to the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Nigeria (FMARD) and Federal Capital Territory Authority (FCTA) to facilitate to help smooth operations in the statistics units of the ministries and to also facilitate the effective coordination of data and statistics generation in the ministries and other government departments.
They included desktop computers, tablets, printers, local area network equipment, internet modems, monitors, projectors and uninterrupted power supply devices, among others. Similar equipment have also been distributed to the remaining states i.e. Adamawa, Cross River, Kano and Lagos.
The handover ceremony, which was part of the celebrations to mark the World Food Day 2021, was held in Abuja, where the Assistant FAO Representative (Programme) Abubakar Suleiman representing the FAOR Fred Kafeero handed over the items to the Director Partnership and Cooperation (FMARD), Alhaj Zubairu Abdullah who represented the Permanent Secretary.
As part of the strategy to support Nigeria to strengthen its data and statistical systems, FAO launched the ‘Strengthening Institutional Capacity for Improved Data and Information Systems for Policy Planning and Tracking the SDGs in Nigeria’’ project.
It aims to enable inclusive and evidence-based decisions, policies and strategies for agriculture and natural resources in selected federal and state institutions. It pilots in Adamawa, Cross River, Kano and Lagos, states as well as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Abuja.
