ECHO’s Regional Food Security Expert visits FAO and WFP projects in Bama, Borno

Maiduguri - On June 28, 2022 the European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO) Regional Food Security Expert for Central and West Africa, Charlotte Fontaine, visited some of the projects by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and World Food Programme (WFP) in Bama local government authority, Borno state northeast Nigeria.

Ms. Fontaine was conducting a monitoring exercise with the aim of getting a picture of programmatic activities that are implemented by FAO and WFP in the region.

ECHO, together with other development partners, has been on the forefront in supporting the humanitarian interventions in the region which includes Adamawa and Yobe states that have also been adversely affected by a prolonged armed conflict.

During the tour, Ms. Fontaine visited an aquaculture project cluster by youth, livestock restocking and held a meeting with beneficiaries who received dry and rainy seasons’ inputs on the FAO side and a food distribution point by WFP in a camp for internally displaced people.

Besides, the ECHO official also met and talked with community leaders.

Commenting on the visit, FAO Representative in Nigeria and to the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Fred Kafeero, noted that the ECHO’s partnership has made a positive difference in improving food security, nutrition and livelihoods of millions of people in northeast region of the country
