EVENT DETAILS
📅 Date: Wednesday, 10 June 2026
🕙 Time: 08.00 - 17.30 (UTC +3)
📍 Argyle Grand Hotel in Nairobi
The workshop will introduce the guide “How to Design Nutrition-Sensitive Investment Strategies in Wholesale Food Markets – A Step-by-Step Approach to Guide Action” and supports its uptake by stakeholders.
The event will bring together city and county officials from Nairobi, Kisumu, Kampala, Lilongwe, and Lusaka, as well as representatives from relevant national ministries, wholesale market managers and operators, development partners, and technical experts. It will support participants in integrating nutrition-sensitive approaches into the planning, financing, and management of wholesale food markets.
In particular, the discussions will focus on:
- Recognizing that wholesale food markets are strategic entry points for improving urban food systems and advancing access to safe, diverse, and nutritious diets.
- Promoting nutrition-sensitive investment approaches that go beyond markets infrastructure and efficiency alone and take into consideration their potential to shape nutrition outcomes.
- Emphasizing the importance of collaboration across sectors and stakeholders, and the value of including nutrition considerations before investment and in monitoring processes.
- Supporting city authorities and market managers in including nutrition-sensitive approaches in the planning, financing, and management of wholesale food markets, and helping them put nutrition-sensitive strategies into practice.
- Reinforcing the idea that stronger wholesale food markets contribute to healthier diets and more sustainable urban food systems.
This workshop is part of the FVC/GLO/190/MUL Project on “Improving availability of healthy diets through innovative market-based approaches to nutrition”, which aims to strengthen food systems by promoting innovative, market-based solutions that improve access to safe, nutritious, and affordable food.
