La aprobación por la Cámara de Diputados de República Dominicana de la nueva Ley de Soberanía y Seguridad Alimentaria y Nutricional es un paso fundamental hacia la erradicación del hambre y la malnutrición en dicho país, señaló hoy la FAO. La ley fue declarada de urgencia y aprobada el 8 de junio, creando el Sistema Nacional para la Soberanía y Seguridad Alimentaria y Nutricional. Este sistema facilitará el diseño e implementación de todas las políticas, programas y proyectos de soberanía y seguridad alimentaria y nutricional en el país, siguiendo un enfoque de derechos.

Senator Guido Girard Lavín presented the new law about food labelling of Chile in FAO Headquarters; this law will come into force in June, after a process started ten years ago and after an intense negotiation with the food industry. The Pan-African Parliament (PAP) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) have acknowledged the need to respect, protect and fulfil the fundamental human right to food and optimal nutrition in Africa. During extensive deliberations at the Second Ordinary Session of the Fourth Parliament, the Parliamentarians agreed to establish a Pan-African Parliamentary Alliance for Food and Nutrition Security.  Recognizing their role as custodians of political commitments, the Parliamentarians have agreed to work with FAO to ensure food and nutrition security for all in the Continent.
