Honduras seeks to become a PSMA Party
Officials from the Fisheries, Maritime, Port and Navy of Honduras, met with experts of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) to discuss the 2009 FAO Agreement on Port State Measures (PSMA) to prevent, deter and eliminate illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing. Honduras is analyzing its next steps to allow it to become a Party to the PSMA.
The meeting was an initiative of the Representation of FAO to Honduras and the Fisheries Global and Regional Processes Team, Fisheries Division, FAO.
An expert of the Fisheries Global and Regional Processes Team of FAO provided an overview of the PSMA including its current status, operational implementation, and others aspects of the Agreement.
National Authorities agreed about the importance of accession and implementation of the PSMA due to its effectiveness to combat IUU fishing and made a commitment to work to achieve it.
