The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), partner of the SAVE FOOD initiative, through the participation of its high-level representatives present at the Conference, will illustrate and discuss the projects and studies it has undertaken on the themes of food loss and waste reduction.
• Fighting food loss – case studies from India Field case studies to assess losses as well as to identify causes and find solutions for losses in four selected food-supply chains in Andhra Pradesh, India in the rice, chickpea, milk and mango subsectors represent a key activity of the Global Initiative on Food Loss and Waste Reduction. • Do Good – Save Food! FAO’s education material to raise awareness and reduce food waste at home and in schools FAO is currently developing education material on the issue of food waste. • Food Loss reduction Initiatives for smallholders in Africa The “Mainstreaming food loss reduction initiatives for smallholders in food deficit areas” project, implemented by the Rome-Based UN Agencies (RBA) FAO, IFAD, and WFP, funded by the Government of Switzerland, aims to improve food security and income- generation opportunities through the reduction of food losses in supported food grains and pulses value chains. + READ MORE
• Reducing post-harvest losses in traditional fresh produce supply chains in South Asia In South Asia the levels of post-harvest losses in fruits and vegetables are high. An underlying cause of these losses is the limited awareness and knowledge base of stakeholders in the traditional supply chains, where these losses occur.
