联合国粮农组织智慧农业倡议于2019年启动，并得到了韩国的慷慨资助。该倡议旨在创建一个可复制的模式，以转型小农户的园艺系统。它既满足了人们对水果和蔬菜日益增长的需求（水果和蔬菜是健康、多样化饮食的关键），又应对了自然资源有限（特别是耕地和水资源）、气候变化、低效耕作方式和市场准入困难等挑战。通过结合保护性耕作、数字化工具、良好农业规范、基于地域的技术支持和市场导向型战略，该倡议赋能小农户，使其能够将园艺发展成为一项可行且高价值的产业。
