Objective / Goal	To assess the socio-economic impacts of FAO’s livestock protection package distributed before the dry season, focusing on its effectiveness in safeguarding livelihoods, improving food security, and supporting livestock-dependent households.

Beneficiaries	FAO delivered 169 511 Livestock Protection packages in 2022.
Activities	Livestock farming is an essential source of income, livelihood and food security in Afghanistan, where around 45 percent of the population depends on livestock production. However, extreme weather phenomena such as droughts and cold snaps are increasingly threatening this vital sector. This project evaluates the socio-economic impacts of FAO’s livestock protection package, distributed during the winter season to support livestock-dependent households, in Afghanistan. Using the RIMA 2023 dataset, the study examines the package’s effects on food security and household wellbeing. By analyzing outcomes for beneficiary households, the research provides key insights into the effectiveness of winter assistance programs in safeguarding livelihoods and ensuring food security during critical periods
