| Activities | Backyard poultry production has long been a key source of family nutrition in Afghanistan, where women are responsible for more than 90 percent of egg and poultry meat production in villages. In a country where many women are illiterate, rarely leave their homes, and have limited access to education, FAO’s poultry support package offers essential training and inputs to empower women. This project evaluates the socio-economic impacts of FAO’s poultry support package, with a primary focus on enhancing women’s role in income-generating activities, poultry production, and nutrition. By providing training and resources, the intervention aims to increase women’s income and improve their economic security. The study relies on primary data and ex-post impact evaluation methods to assess how the package contributes to women’s economic empowerment and female food security, offering valuable insights into the effectiveness of gender-responsive programming in fragile contexts. |
