Workshop ''Soil food webs: Linking structure, energy flux and function''
The sheer diversity of life in soil is
one reason why soil food web
research has lagged behind aboveground
food web science. Moreover,
the feeding habits of many soil living
species have not yet been described.
This lack of functional information is
generally attributed to the opaque
nature of soils, the small size of most
soil biota and the related technological
difficulties.
This workshop brings together
scientists from diverse fields in soil
science, such as microbiology,
zoology, ecology and carbon
dynamics. Thereby we aim to bridge
the different disciplines working on
soil food web structure and energy
flow to prompt a better understanding
of soil functioning.
