About FAO Grievance Mechanisms

Stakeholders involved in, or affected by, activities supported by FAO have a right to express their concerns to the Organization regarding actions that impact them. Addressing grievances early and effectively is essential for mitigating, managing, and successfully resolving any issue.

The existence of a grievance mechanism is crucial to ensuring that affected parties have access to fair, transparent, inclusive and no-cost processes for redressing grievances and resolving conflicts. FAO grievance mechanisms are designed to receive and address complaints related to the implementation of activities in a timely and culturally appropriate manner. Once a grievance is filed, FAO will keep the complainant informed of the case’s progress.

FAO strictly prohibits and actively prevents retaliation against stakeholders who seek information about or participate in activities supported or implemented by the Organization. This includes expressing concerns or accessing FAO’s grievance mechanism. The Organization does not tolerate or contribute to threats, intimidation, retaliation, or physical and legal attacks against stakeholders involved in or affected by FAO projects. Requests for confidentiality regarding the identities of complainants and the disclosure of information provided to these mechanisms will be respected.
