Innovative finance to unlock investment in sustainable agrifood systems
Sustainable agrifood systems are essential to solving food insecurity, malnutrition, poverty, the loss of biodiversity, and climate change. Transformationto more sustainable agrifood systems requires billions of investments over the next decade.
At UNCTAD’s 8th World Investment Forum (WIF) in Abu Dhabi, 16-20 October2023, FAO, in partnership with UNCTAD, will be hosting the Investment in Agrifood Systems Forum.
FAO’s forum will highlight the urgent need to attract SDG-aligned public and private sector investment to transform agrifood systems to deliver a healthy planet, population, and economy.
Topics for discussion will include: technology and innovation to increase resilience and support climate change adaptation and mitigation, transforming the urban food systems, investing in mitigating food loss and waste, investing in sustainable value chain and agribusiness development – and much more.
The FAO Investment Centre will host a session entitled Innovative finance to unlock investment in sustainable agrifood systems on 18 October 2023, 11:00 - 12:30.
Panelists will focus on innovative and practical solutions to mobilize funds and enhance the resilience of agrifood systems – including blended finance and de-risking mechanisms– with the goal to promote food security, nutrition, and agricultural sustainability, particularly in the least developed countries.
Mauricio Benitez, Agribusiness and Finance Investment Specialist, FAO, will moderate the session, with panelists Gunther Berger, Managing Director, Directorate for SDG Innovation and Economic Transformation at UNIDO, Camille Huret, Co-founder of Beyond Finance, and Alejandro Escobar, Lead Investment and Operations Officer at IDB, and Sachin Kumar Sharma, Associate Professor at the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT).
The WIF is a global platform for investment and development, offering an opportunity to influence investment-related policymaking and contribute to shaping the global investment environment.
