FAO Hosts National Workshop on Food security assessment in Azerbaijan

As the custodian agency for Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Indicator 2.1.2, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) continues to support countries in monitoring progress toward SDG Target 2.1: "End hunger and ensure access by all people, in particular the poor and people in vulnerable situations, including infants, to safe, nutritious and sufficient food all year round." 

From July 1 to 4, FAO is organizing a national technical workshop in Baku to strengthen the capacity of national institutions in Azerbaijan to analyze food insecurity data. The focus is on the application of the Food Insecurity Experience Scale (FIES) methodology to derive official SDG 2.1.2 estimates using data collected in national surveys implemented by State Statistical Committee. 

Expected Outputs: 

  • Enhanced technical capacity of national institutions to analyze food security data and produce accurate, reliable indicators. 

  • Improved use of SDG 2.1.1 and 2.1.2 estimates to inform national monitoring frameworks, classification systems, and Monitoring & Evaluation tools guiding policy and humanitarian interventions. 

  • Official estimates of SDG 2.1.1 and 2.1.2 derived from national data. 

Participants: 
The workshop is attended by 14 participants representing State Statistical Committee, Ministry of Agriculture and Food Safety Agency actively engaged in food security and nutrition monitoring in Azerbaijan.
