National Training Workshop on Food Security SDG Indicators (2.1.1 & 2.1.2) (Hanoi, Viet Nam)
07/10/2024 - 11/10/2024
In response to a request from the General Statistics Office (GSO), FAO conducted a national workshop on food security SDG indicators Prevalence of Undernourishment (PoU) and Prevalence of Moderate or Severe food insecurity, based on the Food Insecurity Experience Scale (FIES) . The workshop took place in Hanoi, Viet Nam, from October 7 to October 11, 2024.
As the custodian agency for food security SDG indicators 2.1.1 and 2.1.2, FAO is responsible for building technical capacity in member countries to monitor progress towards SDG Target 2.1: End hunger and ensure access for all people, particularly the poor and vulnerable, to safe, nutritious, and sufficient food all year round by 2030.
The workshop provided technical support to Vietnam's national institutions responsible for food security monitoring, focusing on applying the statistical methods underpinning SDG indicators 2.1.1 (PoU) and 2.1.2 (FIES). The training enabled participants to derive estimates using data from the Vietnam Household Living Standard Survey (VHLSS).
Outcomes:
- Enhanced capacity of Vietnam’s national institutions to analyze food security data and produce reliable, meaningful indicators to inform national policies and contribute to global reporting.
- Production of national estimates for SDG indicators 2.1.1 and 2.1.2 using data from the VHLSS.
Participants:
The workshop was attended by 20 government officials from the General Statistics Office (GSO), the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, and the Ministry of Health.
