Workshop on Food Security SDG Indicators (2.1.1 & 2.1.2) (Rome, Italy)
(Italy), 27/11/2024 - 29/11/2024
FAO hosted a technical workshop on the Prevalence of Undernourishment (PoU) and the Food Insecurity Experience Scale (FIES) in FAO Headquarters, Rome for a delegation of officials from national ministries of India from November 27 to November 29, 2024.
As the custodian agency for SDG Indicators 2.1.1 and 2.1.2, FAO supports the efforts of the countries in monitoring target 2.1 “by 2030 end hunger and ensure access by all people, in particular the poor and people in vulnerable situations including infants, to safe, nutritious and sufficient food all year round”.
The workshop aimed to discuss the methodological aspects of the two indicators and provide technical support to national institutions in monitoring food insecurity in India to apply the statistical methods behind the two indicators 2.1.1 and 2.1.2 and derive estimates based on the data collected through the National Household Consumption Expenditure Survey (HCES), 2022-23 and the upcoming National Individual Dietary-Intake Survey, 2023-24.
Outcomes:
- Professionals from the national ministries better understand the methodologies of the two SDG indicators, strengthen their capacities to analyse food security data and produce meaningful and reliable indicators to inform monitoring frameworks.
- The estimates on SDG Indicator 2.1.1 are derived using the latest National Household Consumption Expenditure Survey (HCES), 2022-23.
Participants
The workshop was attended by eight participants from five institutions.
