Urban and periurban forests. Management, monitoring and ecosystem services

The EMoNFUr project is a EU funded project (LIFE+ 10 ENV/IT/399) created by ERSAF (Regional Authority for Agriculture and Forests Services), the Slovenian Forest Institute, and Slovenian Ministry of Agriculture and Environmen. The purpose of this project is to establish a monitoring network of the urban and periurban lowland forests to protect this heritage and guide its long-term evolution. Starting from the experiences implemented in Lombardy and in the Osrednjeslovenska – Ljubljana region in Slovenia, the bases for a wider monitoring network to be proposed at European level will be set. The project, first wide-ranging monitoring experience of the urban and periurban forests at European level, includes a study programme aimed at knowing the territory status and specifically its environmental resources, in order to protect the urban and periurban forests and the biodiversity. This manual is one of the important outputs created by the project.
