Participatory techniques for community forestry - A field manual

Author Jackson, W.J. & Ingles, A.W.
Year of publication 1998
This manual aims only to inform people about how participatory techniques might be used in community forestry, not to promote rigid guidelines about how they should be used. It was written to help people make choices about how they will do their community forestry job. This manual is different than other publications because it deals with the use of participatory techniques for specific tasks within community forestry (such as negotiating plans for collaborative forest management or for establishing plant nurseries) and sets out ideas about how the toolkit of participatory approaches can be used to complete such tasks. The manual is most relevant to the implementation of community forestry in Nepal. It is known however, that many of the tasks, problems, issues and choices of programme managers and field workers in Nepal are similar to those faced in natural resource management programmes in other countries.
