Author: Coll.
Publisher: URBACT
2015

Urban markets contribute to massive opportunities and benefits. They can play an important role for the sustainable development and revitalization of a city by promoting: job creation and employment, tourism (related to gastronomy traditions), local commerce, healthy life styles, revitalization of public space, social and cultural “services", and an environmental friendly local supply chain. This publication aims to provide ideas, inspirations and illustrations to market managers and city stakeholders responsible for city markets on how city markets can become economically successful and drivers of sustainable urban development. Moreover, it presents some of the lessons and good practices adopted by the cities involved in the URBACT Market project. Using a participative approach, engaging a wide range of stakeholders, each city has built its own Local Action Plan and has learnt from the diverse network of other cities.
