Leveraging Urbanization for Food Systems Transformation

24/07/2023 24/07/2023

Many cities are taking action to sustainably transform food systems. One area of progress since the UN Food Systems Summit, is that champion cities are increasingly joining forces with national governments to ensure that national food systems policies reflect local concerns.

This event aims to heighten awareness, to inspire, advocate and learn together as cities and countries share their tangible initiatives and experiences of how they are working towards shared food systems goals.

The role of cities as key entry points to ignite national and global level food systems transformation will be showcased. Collective follow-up actions will be identified including capacity building on how city, local and national governments can better work together for achieving sustainable and resilient food systems transformation. The need for many more cities and local governments to be given the space and agency to engage in the design and implementation of policies and programs developed at national level will be highlighted.
