International Day of Potato High-Level Ceremony - “Harvesting diversity, feeding hope.”

Sheikh Zayed Centre (FAO Headquarters)
30.05.2024
Start: 16:00  Rome time

The International Day will build on the achievements of the International Year of Potato, and in particular, emphasize the importance of this ubiquitous crop in combating hunger, malnutrition and poverty – in particular in the face of climate change and variability. The roles of small-scale and family farmers, especially in the Andean region, a significant proportion of whom are women, in safeguarding and passing on the crop’s diversity from generation to generation will also be recognized with a view to the adaptation and replication of good practices. The crop’s diversity and the associated varied cultural and culinary dimensions of its value chain from around the world will also be underscored.
