DLG joins alliance for the “International Year of Women in Agriculture 2026” 

Women play a crucial role in European agriculture, driving innovation, sustainability and diversification in rural economies. With less than one-third of farms managed by women, women farmers remain under-represented as farm owners, managers and leaders.

From 20 to 24 April, ministers of agriculture, senior officials, and delegates from 46 countries will gather in Brunei Darussalam for the 38th Session of the FAO Regional Conference for Asia and the Pacific (APRC 38) to set the region’s food and agriculture priorities.

Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Martin Heydon TD, has announced Carina Roseingrave as the Department’s Woman Farmer Ambassador for International Year of the Woman Farmer 2026, at an event held recently to mark International Women’s Day.

Speaking at the launch, Rafiqul I Mohamed, Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, described the year as “not just a celebration, but a call to action”
