Bananas are the world’s most exported and consumed fresh fruit, contributing significantly to global trade and food security. To ensure a more just and resilient supply chain, the implementation of Human Rights Due Diligence (HRDD) is gaining traction as a key strategy. HRDD provides a structured process for identifying, preventing, mitigating, and accounting for adverse human rights impacts in business operations and supply chains. As regulatory frameworks such as the EU’s Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) and Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) take shape, companies in the banana sector—whether smallholders, exporters, importers, orretailers—must understand how to comply with these evolving obligations while also improving business performance.

This webinar will explore how integrating gender equity into human rights due diligence (HRDD) can promote decent work and build a more resilient, productive, and sustainable banana industry. By showcasing practical tools, actionable strategies, and real-world case studies, the session will equip stakeholders with the knowledge to reduce gender-based risks, enhance gender-responsive practices, and create safer, more inclusive workplaces across the banana supply chain.

The webinar will:

  • Showcasehow advancing gender equity contributes to operational efficiency, cost savings, and workforce productivity and loyalty.

  • Present practical tools and approaches to identify and address gender-specific risks in alignment with international frameworks (e.g., OECD-FAO Guidance, ILO standards).

  • Highlight successful gender equity initiatives from companies and organizations working across the banana supply chain, with lessons learned from implementation.

  • Offer strategies to prevent and respond to workplace harassment, including sexual harassment, tailored to agricultural contexts.
