Sign up for the teachers’ lab “How teachers can revolutionize food education in schools”

28/11/2021

On 13th December 2021 at 2.00 p.m. (UTC), FAO and UNICEF will host the teachers’ lab “How teachers can revolutionize food education in schools” in the framework of the World Food Forum. To attend, please sign up here.

The lab will introduce a new vision and model for food education in schools, focusing on the role of teachers as main implementers. It will demonstrate how a holistic food education model can be applied through a range of transformative teaching and learning activities that are “fit for purpose” to jointly support the achievement of children’s food competences.

More specifically, participants will be able to:

  • Raise awareness on the need to transform food education in schools.
  • Explore real-life cases that demonstrate how a holistic food education model can be applied through a range of activities in schools.
  • Access and use simple tools to critically assess school food education activities and learning materials.
  • Discuss, based on their professional experience, what type of activities and learning materials work best, why and what they can do within their context to lead/be part of a food education transformation.
  • Co-construct a series of feasible actions that they can carry out in their schools to advance food education.

The lab, held in English, will consist of a mix of activities including short presentations by FAO and UNICEF’s food education experts, exchange of experiences among teachers, hands-on activities, and so on. Participation is open to teachers, head teachers, front-line educators and school staff directly involved in implementing food education activities; places are limited in order to ensure a fruitful discussion among participants.
