Logistical details for the media

Online accreditation is now closed. Accreditation is still possible in person at the Aranciera di San Sisto Roma, Via delle Camene 11, across Viale delle Terme di Caracalla from FAO (map | hours of operation | accreditation requirements)

Entering the FAO building

During the Conference, journalists and their crews must access the FAO compound outside Gate 2 on Via Guido Baccelli.

Accredited journalists must carry their Conference pass and photo ID provided during the accreditation process. Conference passes must be worn and be visible at all times.

Movement inside FAO

Security will be high during the Conference. Media will have access to  the Media Centre on the ground floor of Building A. (More details in the Working Arrangements section).

Ministers and igh-level representatives will arrive at the main FAO entrance. A small working space will be located near the main entrance to allow coverage of arrivals by photographers and cameramen. Filming and photo opportunities in the arrivals area will be handled on a pool basis.

The main venue for the Conference will be the FAO Plenary Hall on the 3rd floor of building A. Due to space constraints and security requirements there will be only very limited access to the Plenary Hall. Access for cameramen and photographers will be organized on a pool basis. Non-video and non-photo media representatives will not have access to the Plenary Hall but will be able to follow the Conference proceedings on closed-circuit television monitors within the designated Media Centre as well as via an online webcasting service (http://www.fao.org/webcast/).

Opening of the conference

On Wednesday 19 November at 9:00am the Conference will be formally opened in the Plenary (Please see the provisional agenda at:  http://www.fao.org/about/meetings/icn2/documents/en/
Following the election of the Conference chairperson, heads of delegations, and special guests will speak.
Live pool feeds from the opening ceremony will be provided by RAI and the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and will be accessible at work stations reserved for broadcast journalists in the International Broadcast Centre. Live feeds from the meeting rooms will be shown on screens throughout the Media Centre and in the Media Catering Area. Audio devices, distributed in the Media Centre, will allow broadcasters to follow the meetings with original sound or with interpretation.
Additionally, high-quality handout photographs of the opening ceremony will be made available for media use. See details below.
A Video on Demand service will be available, for a fee. (Details to be provided at the Video Desk).
After the opening, still photographers and video crews accompanying a head of state may film during their head of state’s intervention on a limited, one-by-one basis by arrangement with the FAO TV and Photo Liaison Officers.

Access to the plenary for TV/video crews and photographers not accompanying a head of state will be extremely limited. Access will be organized on a pool basis through a system of floating passes.

The availability of EBU radio feeds is pending confirmation, but more information will be available at the Media Information Centre during the conference.

Working arrangements for print & online media

A working area for journalists (Media Centre) will be open on the ground floor of Bld A, inside the FAO Library (40 positions) and in the marquee outside  (126 seats  plus 76 seats non electrified).
The workstations will be open 24 hours a day, with limited services between midnight and 6 a.m., until 3 hours after the conclusion of the Conference on Friday 21 November.
Due to the large number of accredited journalists expected, workstation seats are available on a first-come first-served basis.

Journalists are  encouraged to bring laptops with them. Wireless Internet connectivity will be available in the entire Media Centre area. To access the Wi Fi network: ICN2, password: food4icn2

Press conference

The Directors-General of FAO and WHO will brief the media on the opening day of the conference, Wednesday, 19 November, at 15.30h in the Sheikh Zayed Center.

Getting help and arranging interviews

FAO media relations officers will be standing by to assist as needed in the UEMOA Room on the ground floor of Building A adjacent to the Media Centre.

An information desk for journalists located inside the Media Centre will make available Conference documents as well as press releases and publications, the texts of speeches, and other information. A separate desk will handle requests and provide assistance to photographers and cameramen.

Webcasting

Conference proceedings can be followed on the FAO website: http://www.fao.org/webcast/

Please note that Internet access only allows for surfing the Web or emails – not for uploading larger files.

There will be seven monitors in the Library Media Centre and eight in the marquee which together with the webcast will allow media to follow the proceedings and to be kept informed of announcements regarding new, previously unscheduled events and press conferences.

The text of speeches by Summit participants will be uploaded on the conference website. Copies of speeches will also be made available at a Media Information Desk in the Media Centre.

Working arrangements for video and photography

Due to space constraints and security considerations there will be only very limited access to the Plenary, which will be organized at the Photo and Video Desks on a pool basis for cameramen and photographers. More information about the video and photography pools will be available at the Media Information Desk in the Media Centre.

Catering facilities

A reserved catering area for journalists will be available in the marquee just outside the main building within the FAO premises, with a capacity of 280 seats, opening hours 7:30 – 18:00.

The catering facility will provide a fixed-price open buffet offering  a wide selection of salads, meat and fish dishes, soups, vegetables, cheeses, dessert and beverages.  A bar is also available with an assortment of sandwiches, pizzas, pastries and beverages.
