The ‘Generational Renewal through Rural Development’ Workshop, jointly organised by the European Council of Young Farmers (CEJA) and the ENRD Contact Point focused on identifying how various Rural Development Programme measures could support generational renewal. Specifically, the workshop facilitated debate on the challenges of generational renewal faced by young farmers and new entrants, such as access to land, credit, training and knowledge. During the workshop generational renewal best practices were presented by young farmers, and round table discussions were held to encourage participants to share rural development practices in their own Member States. Of note, Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development Phil Hogan gave a speech during the workshop, reiterating his support for bringing generational renewal to the forefront of discussion for 2017, calling for young farmers to play a “full and active role” in the discussion.
