Disaster response and strengthening the resilience of the agriculture sector in the Philippines

Natural and man-made disasters, including typhoons, flooding, drought and armed conflict threaten the livelihoods of farmers and fishers, and ultimately, food security in the Philippines. Helping communities recover and increasing the resilience of the agriculture sector is at the heart of FAO’s work in the country. The video features FAO’s livelihood recovery assistance efforts in communities affected by typhoons Koppu and Melor, the armed clashes in central and western Mindanao, the widespread drought caused by the El Niño phenomenon, as well as the joint initiative by the Department of Agriculture and FAO to integrate the use of drone-aided mapping technologies to significantly increase the speed and accuracy of pre- and post-disaster assessments in agricultural areas.
