General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean - GFCM

Structure

The GFCM implements its activities through its Secretariat and operates during the intersession by means of its subsidiary bodies. The Commission also establishes, as appropriate, temporary, special or standing committees to study and report on matters pertaining to the purposes of the Commission and working parties to study and recommend on specific technical issues.

Commission

The Commission holds its regular sessions on an annual basis and can convene, as appropriate, special or extraordinary sessions, at the request or with the approval of the majority of its members.

The sessions of the Commission are attended by delegates of members or their alternates, experts, advisers and observers. Each member has the right to one vote except in the case of a regional economic integration organization (REIO) which is entitled to the number of votes equal to the number of its member States which are also members of the Commission. Competence and voting power over specific issues addressed at the sessions are indicated by REIOs prior to the session. REIOs cannot exercise their votes when their member States exercise theirs and vice versa.

As regulated in the GFCM Agreement, the Commission is coordinated by a Bureau:

Mr Roland KRISTO (Albania) - CHAIRPERSON

Ms Nadia SAICHI BOUHAFS (Algeria) - 1st VICE-CHAIRPERSON
   Mr Imad LAHOUD (Lebanon) - 2nd VICE-CHAIRPERSON

   Election date: December 2018
